Rules For Full-size,  and Mini Classes                      Revised 12/16/2007

A. ENTRY 

1. Each driver must register and sign a release.

2. The track or promoter reserves the right to approve or reject any entry.

3. All entry fees will be $35.00

4. Each driver must be 18 years of age or have a Senior's Driver's License. Drivers under 18 must show proof of a 

valid Drivers License and a notarized release signed by a parent or guardian.

5. No entry fees or pit passes will be refunded on illegal cars.

6. All cars must be inspected 1/2 hour before Showtime                                                                                               

 

B. DRIVERS

1. Any driver not obeying the rules will be disqualified.

2. No drinking of alcoholic beverages on the track or in the pit area.

3. Drivers may maneuver forward or backward. There will be no deliberate hitting of the driver's door. No starter hits. Engine must be running.

4. A time limit will be announced by the judges. If a driver does not hit another car within the time limit he, will be disqualified. Playing "possum" or "sandbagging", or double -teaming will result in the same.

5. Boundaries must be observed.

6. No drivers working as a team or together in any heat. More discussion on this at the drivers' meeting.

7. All cars must be removed from the grounds within (12) hours.

8. Drivers have to have long pants and at least a short sleeved shirt. No tank tops, muscle shirts, or shorts

 

C. CARS

1 American made hardtop automobiles or station wagons are allowed. No 1966 or older Imperials, trucks, jeeps, vans, convertibles, hearses, or 4-wheel drive cars.

2. Standard safety belts and helmets REQUIRED! Eye protection , also.

3. All drivers must supply their own cars.

4. All glass, head and taillights must be removed. All chrome trim, such as head and tail light moldings and side trim must be removed before you come. It may NOT BE REMOVED ON THE GROUNDS.

5.A maximum of 5 gallons of gas will be permitted. Gas tanks may be moved to the rear seat area, but must be covered with a canvas or rubber material. NO stock tanks. Mandatory steel gas tanks or boat tanks. NO PLASTIC GAS CONTAINERS ALLOWED. Plastic boat tanks must be secured inside a metal box secured to floor of car. Ratchet straps, plumbers tape or wire will not be permitted a fastening devices. Fuel tanks must be bolted to floor of car.

6. No special bumpers, reinforcements, or trailer hitches permitted.

7. Engine mounts may be chained, wired or welded. No chains or cables over the top.

8. Ballast in tires and locked rear ends are permitted. Fender wells may be cut for wheel clearance. No bolting or rewelding of fender wells.

9. Vehicles must have 4 wheel` brakes at all times.

10. Any car spilling gas or catching fire will be disqualified.

11. A six inch (6") O. D. bar may be put behind the driver's seat and across the dash area above the steering wheel .  These bars must run horizontal across car and be securely fastened with a plate no longer than 12" x 12". bars may be connected on both drivers side and passenger side of car. bar behind seat may not be farther than 8" behind seat measured 3/4 up seat back at the ends of the seats. Bars may not angle in the car.  GAS TANK PROTECTOR MAY BE USED THIS PROTECTOR MAY NOT EXCEED 24" IN WIDTH. You may run a roll over bar inside the car only and can only be welded to the back bar.

12. Cars must be swept out. no junk tires, wheels, metal parts inside. All cars must have factory cooling systems. One transmission cooler is permitted. 

13.Battery must be moved to the inside of the car and covered and secure in a metal or wood box and bolted to the floor no ratchet straps permitted.

14 WIRE: eight ( 8 ) double strands or wire in front and rear to frame and / or bumper.

15. All cars must have the fan blade covered by  hood at all times or must be removed. 

16. Hoods must be in place and operable. They may be wired or bolted you may use 4 bolts 5/8" in diameter with 3" x 3" washers sheet metal to sheet metal only bolts may not exceed 5" in length  . They must have 12 - inch hole above the carburetor. Hoods are not to be welded factory hood hinges must be in place and operable. Hoods must be open for inspection.

17. Deck lids and tailgates may be wired or welded if welded plates not to exceed 1/4 thick and 3" in width these plate can not weld to the bumper or roof of car. No bolts may be used.

18. Straps to be welded on doors are not to be over 3 inches in width. No welding of inside door seams. You may have a roll over bar 6" I.D. inside car only

19. Welding of the body and or frame seems  is not permitted. Cars found to have this done will not be permitted to run.

20. No extra bolts in the car.

21. No extra body mounts in the car. Body mount rubbers may be removed. No bigger than 3/4" bolts to replace factory body mount bolts. If factory body mounts are altered you must  put a 1" spacer made of a stack of washers, wood or metal block or pipe spacer may not exceed 3" in diameter. all vehicles must have a 1" space between body and frame. Body mount washers not to exceed 1/4' in thickness and 3" in diameter and be made out of flat steel only. Body bolts have to be up inside of the frame.

22. Leaf springs: Seven (7) leafs per side. no bigger that 1/4" thick and no wider that 21/2". Four (4) spring clamps per side no bigger that 1/2" No taping of springs. suspension may be locked or welded solid all thread may be used for shocks front A arms may be welded solid. rear spring shackles: front shackles may not exceed 6" in length rear shackles may be 3" wide 1/4" thick and 6" long. Front shackle may be welded to the frame only half  way up the frame the rear shackle may be welded all the way to the top of the frame all thread for shocks may go all the way through the floorboards with a 3" washer the floor boards have to be cut.

23. Headers are allowed, but they must point up. No exhaust will be permitted inside of drivers compartment exhaust must point straight out of hood or be under vehicle .

24. Paint car number on both doors and on top of cars. Cars must be numbered 1-1/2 hours before race.  Drivers doors must be painted white.

25. There must be a 14" x 14" hole cut in the deck lid or wagon tops if wagons are compacted so floor pan of car is  visible.

26. All rear seats and floor decking must be removed.

27. Bumper brackets and shock horns may be welded all the way around. Welds are not to be more that 1/2-inch wide. No other welding of the bumper is permitted. bumper shocks must appear factory. A chain or a !/4" piece of metal 2" wide may welded to the bumper and the bumper bracket to secure the bumper to the shock mounting bracket in the front and rear of the car.

28. Bumper height is 20" maximum from ground to bottom of bumper. This will be measured from the factory mounting location. And measured between the license plate mount and the corner of the bumper not the lowest spot. The rear bumper has to be a minimum of 15" from the ground measures from the bottom of the bumper bumper has to be in the factory locations

29. NO PROFANITY to be written on the cars. No vulgar gestures such as using the middle finger These will lead to disqualification.

30. Doors may be wired, welded or strapped shut. No loose doors.

31. NO REFUNDS ON ILLEGAL CARS!!!!

32. If you patch rust on floor boards, the metal is not to be thicker that 16 gauge. No exceptions. Patches may not cover a factory body seam. if body mount bolt area is rusted out you can weld a 16 gauge piece of metal 10" by 10" over the seem if you need to for a new body bolt area.

33. Three-quarter (3/4) ton truck rear ends will be permitted for safety. No split rims or studded tires will be permitted.

34. No clipping of frames permitted. No welding of extra metal to frame unless stated in above rules i.e.: mounting of springs and welding of A arms.

35. If you run more than 1 car you have to run the car you place in the feature. You can't use someone else's car for the feature.

 

MINI CARS (SEE SCHEDULE)

1. At least (5) cars must show to have this heat.

2. Mini cars must have no more than a 107"-inch wheelbase 4 & 6 cylinder engines only.

3. Suspension must remain stock.  You may use twist in spring spacers to add height. Cars must bounce

4. Doors may be welded. You may use 8 double strands of #9 wire on the front and rear of car.

5. Bumper shocks may be welded.

6. Any make of car will be permitted foreign or domestic. Air bags must be removed from car

7. For mounting of fuel tanks, battery's and bars inside of drivers compartment see full size rules

8. Spirit's and AMC products are outlawed in mini cars.

9. If you want to change front bumper it has to be off of an 80s model car only

 

 

Full Size Truck Rules

 

1. Any American made 2 wheel drive pick up truck permitted. No Blazers or surburbans

2. Factory Fuel tanks must be removed

3. You may run any engine regardless of make

4. Fuel Tanks must be located in the bed of the truck in the center of the bed directly behind cab. No stock fuel tanks permitted Fuel cells must be securely fastened and covered.

5. Battery may be moved to floor of the cab battery must be securely fastened to floor of truck and covered

6. All trucks must have seat belts

7. Doors must be secured by wire, chain, or welded shut no loose doors permitted

8. Tailgates may be welded shut

9. Box and cab mounts may be replaced with up to 3/4 " bolts body mounts may be removed

10.  No trailer hitches or reinforcements of frame or body of any kind permitted May use car bumpers. For mounting of car bumpers you may use factory car shocks and brackets or a 3" + 3" + 5"long box steel or like wise material .

11. Hoods Must be in place and operable Must have a 12" hole cut in hood over carburetor

12Hoods may be wired shut only 8 double strands of wire all permitted to go to frame

13.NO  4 wheel drive trucks permitted

14. Tires are to be stock sizes for trucks no split rims

15. Beds must be welded to cab of truck with a 3" strap directly behind doors

16. 8 double strands of wire permitted in front and rear of truck all permitted to go to the frame

17. Stock suspension only Screw in coil spring blocks may be used in front coil springs, These  may not be welded in

18. A 4 point cage is highly recommended in drivers compartment for drivers safety cages are to be welded to body of truck all cages must pass inspection.

 

 

Stock Rules

 

 

1. Any American-made sedan or station wagon . No 66 and older imperials

2. Helmet, seatbelt & eye protection must be worn at all times.

3. Any controversies or protests must be brought up during Driver's Meeting.

4. Any ???? call first. If it doesn't say you can, don't do it.

5. Judges decision final. May reject any or all entries and cars are subject to re inspection at any time.

6. Cars must be stock unless modification is stated in rules.

7. All glass, plastic & interior must be removed before arriving at the event.

8. Motor of choice. Distributor protectors are allowed, but cannot be welded to the dash bar.

9. Trailer hitches & braces must be removed.

10. A 14x14 inspection hole must be put in all trunk lids.

11. Original gas tank must be removed & replaced with a boat-type tank. Moved to inside of car behind the drivers seat and no further back than the rear axle.

12. Batteries must be moved to passenger's side floorboard.

13. You may weld, wire, or bolt doors,  trunk lids, tail gates if you wire only 4 places sheet metal to sheet metal only.

14. No interior seam welding will be permitted. On pre-ran cars, some sheet metal can be repaired back to stock.

15. Frame welding is limited to the front & back bumper areas only. Any year bumper is ok.

16. There is to be no altering the pitch of the frame in any way past the stock position. Notching /pre-bending is ok.

17. If a frame section needs to be replaced or fixed (rust) you must call.

18. You may put 3, 3in x 3in plates on pre-ran cars that have frame damage. If a seam has come apart, you may weld up to 6in. of frame but counts as l of the 3 plates allowable. (No plates bigger than 3x3)

19. The pre-ran cars that have been bent at the feet, can be pulled back down to the stock position, but you cannot use the 3x3 plates to repair that spot. We well let you re weld the flap only. (Call if questions)

20. Angles for the cross member can't be any longer than 6 in.

21. You must have a window bar or wire in windshield area.

22. You may modify tie rods & control arms & use valve stem protectors.

23. You may use a floating gas tank protector that comes off the back bar, but it cannot be wider than 2 ft. The gas tank protector or holder may not be within 6” of the rear of the floor pan 24. You must have 4 spots on the hood to keep it secure wire only sheet metal to sheet metal only

25. Hoods must be open for inspections. (12xl2in hole over carburetor)

26. If automobile is tucked there must be large access holes to see in (no wedging,: call!) .

27. Body mounts must remain in place or 1 in. stack of washers is ok.

28. Body bolts & washers may be changed. (7/16 in. diam. bolt max, 3 in. max washers) Must start in stock position.

29. You can weld the A-arms to the frame. the cars do not have to bounce, height must be within reason.

30. The bottom of the back bumper cannot sit any lower than 15 in. from the ground.

31. Coil springs in the rear may be welded, wired or chained to the rear-end.

32. You may use rear-end of choice as long as it is a 5-lug rear-end.

33 Stock leaf springs for all classes. No changing leaf springs

34. You cannot change coil spring to leaf spring set-ups!!!

35. You may add 3 bolts per wheel well.

36. You may have a roll cage surrounding the driver's compartment with an overhead bar must be inside of car. Bars must be sheet metal-to-sheet metal (no kickers) 16 in. max behind seat & must be at least 6 in. off the floor .

38. There are risks & dangers associated with demolition derbies which could result in bodily injury, disability, &

even death.. You must accept these risks and not hold Smash It Demolition Derby’s Inc. responsible.

 

 

 

 

     Modified Rules

 

1. Each Driver is required to fill out an entry form, Be at least 18 years of age and supply their own cars No Refunds

2. Any front engine, 2 wheel drive, hard top or station wagon allowed except 66 and older IMPERIALS

3. All glass including headlights, taillights, mirrors ect. must be removed

4. All dirt and loose pieces must be swept clean of car. No work to be done at track

5. Maximum 5 gallons of fuel. No original fuel tanks permitted. Must use DOT or coastguard approved container. Fuel tank must be securely fastened, leak free and covered behind the driver.

6. Drivers door reinforcements  not to extend more than 6" past the drivers door. No hitting of the drivers door

7. All chrome and ornaments must be removed from outside of car. Carpet and headliner must be removed

8. A maximum of 3 batteries and 1 transmission cooler may be moved to any reasonable position in the car as long as they are securely fastened to the car by #9 wire, metal straps, ect. and have a suitable cover

9. Headers must extend straight up. If headers is not used, you must have a 6" hole above the carburetor

10. Metal to patch holes must be no heavier than the original. No patching holes caused by removing lights.\

11. Engine mounts may be chained wired or welded. Radiator must remain in original position

12. Intoxicating substances or the use of such are prohibited prior to or during the event.

13. Safety belts, approved helmets and eye protection are required and must be worn.

14. Drivers have 1 minute to make aggressive contact sandbaggers will be disqualified.

15. Derby officials may inspect car at any time. Officials reserve the right to impose additional rules

16. Do not leave car unless official tells you to do so or until the last car has stopped

17. Tubes, water, and tire inside of tires and welded or locked rear ends are permitted

18. Car must be reasonably level back of car may not be flattened

19. Doors must be fastened shut by wire chain or welded. Tailgates and trunk lids may be welded

20. Straps on doors no to exceed 1/8" inch thickness and three inches in width

21. A steel plate not to exceed 1/4"x22"x6" is permitted to be welded on the frame directly above rear axle on coil spring cars only

22. Rear shackles may be moved accommodate longer or shorter springs. Leaf springs may be added to the rear of coil spring cars. Maximum of 12 leaf springs per side,4 clamps per side and only 1 mainspring per side. Springs not to exceed 5/16" in thickness, 2 1/2" in width, 60" in length Clamps not to exceed 1/4" in thickness and 1 1/2" in width. Leaf springs may not extend more than 30" from center of rear axle to center of front eye hole. No spring to be longer than mainspring.

23. Hoods may be wired and /or bolted maximum of 4 bolts not to exceed 1" in diameter by 6" in length, maximum 4 double strands from front of hood to bumper. hood must not be removed and operable. Springs should be removed from hinges

24. Eight double strands of twisted wire may be used between cow and roof, providing there is a 30" hole in the center to escape fire. No other windows may be wired

25. Station wagon rear floor doors must be fastened and operable or completely removed.

26. Maximum 22" to the bottom of the bumper, Bumper must remain in stock location

27. The only welds permitted on the frame are welding the bumpers to the frame using only stock brackets. Welding the front suspension to the frame to raise the front of the car, welding a plate on rear frame arch of coil spring cars, and welds for the addition of brackets to add rear leaf springs to the car. Maximum bracket size of 4" and bracket may not extend across top of frame

28. Body may be directly bolted to top side of frame. No extra bolts in body or frame. Body bolt washers (3" maximum) not permitted between body and frame

29. Any or all body seams may be welded No steel, Other than 1/4" bead of weld on the seams

30. Inside of drivers door must be covered with original upholstery, foam rubber or similar safe covering

31. A four sided steel structure may be used for driver protection running directly behind drivers seat across front passenger door, dash area and drivers door. Must be securely fastened inside of car.

32. The two hand hole covers on 1971 - 1976 GM leaf spring wagons (located underneath side of the tailgate compartment and fastened with 4 screws each) must be removed.

33. If the frame is bent or broken you can use a 1/2" thick piece of steel  3"x 3" to fix it. 4 plates per car if the frame seams come apart you may weld up to 6" of the seam but it counts as one plate of steel.  

 

 

Lawn Mower Rules

 

1.   Any riding lawn mower with a front mounted engine allowed. No rear mounted engines permitted. 18 horse power maximum.

2.  Decks must be removed. You may make a home-made exhaust but must point straight up.

3. You must weld bars on side of mower for leg protection only.

4.  If battery or fuel tank is in front of engine it must be moved to a safe location.

5.  You may rig a hand throttle for your use, Hoods must be bolted or wired down tightly.

6.  You may use a spark plug protector this must be mounted to engine only.

7.  You may weld bumpers to the front and rear of mower they may not exceed the width of the front tires and be 15" in width.

8.  No excessively thick bumpers remember these are lawn mowers.

9.  Nothing may protect the tires in any way. No frame reinforcement permitted except what may be needed to attach bumpers and cages to. Chains are allowed on rear tires only pulleys may be changed to your desired gearing.

10.  Helmets are required. Hits are to be made to the front and tires of the other mowers. Hit with the front of your mower. No hitting in the leg areas of the other mowers. Rear hits may be made using safe smart judgment.

11.  No home-made mowers permitted    

 

 

 

 

 

 

The rules and / or regulations set fourth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. These rules shall govern the conditions of all events, and, by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules. NO EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATION OF OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES AND / OR REGULATIONS. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator or official.

The race director shall be empowered to permit minor deviation from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in his opinion do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements. NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OR SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM ALTERATION OF SPECIFICATIONS. NO interpretation or deviation of these rules I left to the discretion of the officials. Their decision is final.
